Santa has come and gone, all the presents have been opened and it’s nearly New Year’s day. Now what to do with your real Christmas Tree? There are quite a few options actually, but let’s talk about what not to do first. Do not put your tree in your trash or recycling bin and please don’t wrap it in a plastic “tree bag” either! When your tree is thrown in the trash bin it’ll end up in the landfill adding to an already growing problem. If you also put your tree in a plastic bag this is even worse. Your once biodegradable tree is now wrapped in a non-biodegradable barrier! Instead, let us help you recycle your real live Christmas tree the right way.

Christmas Tree Removal Service

Okay so now that we know what not to do let’s look at some Christmas tree recycling options. Option #1: Use us! If you want your tree recycling done timely but don’t want to lug it to the recycling center yourself then we are here to help. When you use TFT to recycle your tree you’ll be able to easily schedule your recycling day on our website starting as early as Dec 26th. Watch that tree disappear like magic! You’ll just need to undecorate your tree and leave it in your front yard or doorstep by 10 am for us to pick up. Or if you selected In Home Tree Removal we will remove your undecorateed tree from inside your house for you! We then recycle your tree through the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. Christmas trees are chipped and turned into mulch to be used in Georgia parks and public spaces! Remember, tree removal is included with every Christmas tree stand rental.

Tree Recycling Option #2

Load that tree up and take it to the closest Bring one for the chipper event near you! A full list of site locations can be found here on the Keep Georgia Beautiful website. Remember, before you take your tree, remove all inorganic items from its branches. This means lights, ornaments, stands and if you have a flocked Christmas tree it’s unfortunately not recyclable!

Toss it in the lake! Real Christmas trees make fabulous habitats for fish and other aquatic creatures! Many lakes encourage people to sink Christmas trees in their waters for this very reason. Some however may not look so fondly on the act and may consider it dumping or littering. MAKE SURE to do your research before you add your Christmas tree to the bottom of any lake or body of water. You don’t want to start the New Year off with a dumping ticket! Do not toss flocked trees in lakes. Flocked trees are covered in chemicals the fishies don’t like.🐟

What is a “Fresh Cut”?

When a tree is originally cut down at the farm something amazing happens. Within as little as 3 hours Christmas tree sap at the base of the tree hardens and traps all the tree’s moisture inside. It’s like when you skin your knee and a scab forms and stops the bleeding! This is what makes for a great Christmas tree, a tree that can lock its moisture inside and stay fresh for extended periods of time. However, when this sap scab forms it keeps moisture from getting in just as well as it keeps it from getting out! To ensure that your tree gets the moisture it needs and stays fresh well past Christmas we give every single tree we sell a fresh cut before it leaves our lots. If you purchased a tree from somewhere else and they failed to give your baby a fresh cut see how to properly amend this mistake below.

Giving a Fresh Cut

So you got your tree home and realized the seller didn’t give your tree a fresh cut, this is a big no-no. What you need to do first is unfortunately remove the decorations if you’ve already decorated. But hey, you get to decorate again right? Next, you’ll want to take your Christmas tree outside and find a place where you can lie the tree on its side. You’ll want the base of the tree, where you’ll be cutting, to be suspended with nothing below it. A work table or the top stair to your deck or front porch with the base of the tree hanging off the edge will work perfectly. Next with either a hand saw or chain saw you will need to make a straight cut 2-3 inches up from the base of the stump. This will insure to re-open the trees scab so that water can get in! Your Installation Day

On your Christmas tree installation day, our tree experts will pick out a top-tier, fresh cut Christmas tree based on your selected height. Next, they will give your holiday centerpiece a fresh cut to ensure it sucks up water well past Christmas. Once they have loaded your tree and are on the way to your home our delivery drivers will shoot you a text as a heads up. Upon arrival our drivers will knock on your door before unloading your tree, securing and straightening your tree in your tree stand, and finally bringing your tree into your home WHEREVER you’d like! Please Note: If you do not answer the door when we knock we will then call your provided phone number. If we cannot get an answer from you within 5 minutes our delivery drivers will move on to their next stop and you will have to reschedule your Installation.

Your Delivery Day

On your delivery day, our tree experts will pick out a top-tier, fresh-cut Christmas tree based on your selected height. Next, they will give your holiday centerpiece a fresh cut to ensure it sucks up water well past Christmas. Once they have loaded your tree and are on the way to your home, our delivery drivers will shoot you a text as a heads-up. Upon arrival, our drivers will unload your tree, secure and straighten your tree in your tree stand and leave it standing right on your doorstep. All you have to do is bring’er in and decorate! How we price our Christmas trees

Only two factors go into our pricing: size and aesthetics. When Christmas trees arrive from our friends in North Carolina they are tied up tight to ensure no branches break during transit. Once they have made their way to us it’s time to untie or “unwrap” each tree. Every time we unwrap a Christmas tree two things happen. First, we measure the height of the tree, from the very bottom of the tree to the tippy top of its “topper”. Next, we take a step back, spin the tree, shake it, run our hand through its needles, and finally give the Christmas tree an aesthetic rating. See more below on sizing and aesthetics or check out our shop page to get an idea of what prices to expect.

Christmas tree height

Christmas trees are always measured from the very bottom or base of the tree to the very top of its highest branch or topper. When shopping online you can be sure to receive a tree that is at least your selected height or maybe a tad taller! Before you pick your tree height check out our example images on our shop to ensure you’re getting what’s best for you. Many customers who think they want a 5ft, 6ft, or 7ft Christmas tree find they’d prefer one foot taller!

Aesthetics

After a Christmas tree’s height is confirmed it’s time to see how pretty is! We know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so every Christmas tree we say is beautiful may not be to you, but we are trying our best! A tree’s aesthetics will play a bigger role in pricing than its height. A 12 ft Christmas tree that’s missing half its branches isn’t worth as much as a perfect 6 ft tree. When shopping online all Christmas tree delivery packages come with an “ideal” tree width and fullness. When shopping in person you’ll be able to pick out your perfect Christmas tree based on its width and fullness. Both of these qualities will play a role in in-person pricing but don’t expect a drastic change from the prices listed online.
